Newbridge Kildare Lions Club, which was founded in 1976 and has been serving the community for 44 years, wish  to send a big thank you to everyone who contributed to our Annual Christmas Food Appeal. We had one of our most successful collections to date and all funds raised were redistributed into the community. This year we distributed food hampers and and vouchers for food and clothing. We looked after more than 200 families in this way. We also funded the Annual Christmas Party run by Anne Crowe who does trojan work with her team on Christmas Day.

Morgan McCabe President of the Lions Club stated ” I wish thank everyone who helped us to make this years collection such a success. In particular Newbridge Silverware, Manguard, Schlotter, Tricky Tricksters, Horse Racing Ireland, Dunnes Stores, Tesco, SuperValu and Marks & Spencers of Whitewater. While it is sad that we have to do collections and food distribution in modern day Ireland, it is also very heartwarming to see the generosity of our community who put their hand in the pocket to ensure those in need are looked after.”

Newbridge Kildare Lions Club is forever indebted to Hotel Keadeen which has been our Clubs home for the last 44 years. Rose O’Loughlin , her family and the staff have supported our Club very generously and this is very much appreciated.

This year in particular we are hoping to raise the awareness of what Lions Clubs do for our communities nationally. A selection of the many projects we do include helping  Guide and Assist dogs for the Blind, Local Schools Funding, Anti Bullying Campaigns and we help feed and clothe those in most need amongst us. Our Lions Clubs are looking for new members who are prepared to roll up their sleeves and deliver for their communities. As any Lions Club member will tell you, it is a privilege to serve and our motto is “Where there’s a need there’s a Lion”.

Founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones as secular service club, there are now 46,000 clubs world wide with 1.4 million members serving their communities and organising fund raising. A unique feature of Lions Clubs is that every penny raised is distributed to those in need as members pay their Club administration cost themselves.
